Drivers began to lower the benchmark as the track rubbered in on the soft compound tyres, with both world championship leader Lewis Hamilton and Bottas swapping fastest laps. Pierre Gasly continued his fine form this weekend putting in the fourth-fastest time to displace his team-mate Max Verstappen, the Frenchman was quickest in the opening practice on Friday. Antonio Giovinazzi once more outpaced his more experienced team-mate Kimi Raikkonen, the Finn was forced to change his engine on Friday following a breakdown, while both Racing Point and Williams drivers completed the 20 runners.
