Things to do in London this September

Head to the south bank for the most diverse line-up of theatre, music, comedy and variety shows you’ll find all year at Underbelly festival. The fourth production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream to grace the London stage this year, this run at Alexandra Palace promises to be the most intimate of the lot. Immersive theatre specialist RIFT is transforming the basement of the iconic venue into a dream-like landscape throughout the month, which promises to be a spectacular and memorable production. Masters of Gascony cuisine Monsieur Le Duck is hosting an Armagnac Club every first Wednesday of the month, bringing Londoners up to speed with one of the most characterful, but underappreciated spirits around. Beer fans have the chance to drink straight from source this month, with Camden Town Brewery hosting its annual Tank Party. It’s always a fun event, with live music, tours and plenty of street food to soak up the beer in a charming pocket of north London. Live recordings of the Guilty Feminist, The Adam Buxton Podcast, Kermode on Film and Pappy’s Flatshare Slamdown are among the big names at the Kings Place event series, which offers something for everyone over the course of the extensive programme. Chefs including Jose Pizaro, Emily Roux and Masterchef’s Billy and Jack will also be giving talks and leading masterclasses as part of a mouth-watering line-up. In fact, the V&A is heavily involved throughout the programme, with a series of featured exhibitions from artists like Matthew McCormick and Kengo Kuma. Jen Brister, Bridget Christie, Josie Long, Felicity Ward and Rose Matafeo are among the comedians taking part in a special show at the stunning Union Chapel this month, raising money to tackle period poverty in the UK. Expect physical performances and cutting-edge 3D video mapping to bring the live production to life, with superheroes Spider-Man, Doctor Strange and the Guardians of the Galaxy on a mission to save the world.
