French chateau that was liberated in World War II on sale for £1.35m

The property is located near to Avranches which is close to the Bay of Mont Saint Michel, and Utah and Omaha beaches where US troops landed on June 6, 1944. Saint-Sauveur-Villages, formerly a commune, was then liberated by US general George Patton on 31 July, 1944, and merged into the Avranches on January 1, 2019.   Former French president Charles de Gaulle is said to have stayed in the lavish property and sprawling grounds when visiting family in the region. He went to Poland to complete training to join the Supreme War Council and then served in the Rhineland, Poland and Middle East from the mid 1920s.  The former president most famously made broadcasts to the BBC calling for a rejection by the French against the armistice signed with the Germans in 1940.    And four storey property where he is said to have stayed, being sold with Leggett Prestige estate agents, includes 12 stables, as well as 8.8 hectares of fenced paddocks, foaling rack, a barn and a cottage, and a basement with a wine cellar.
