BBC Top Gear announces details about when filming will begin for new series

Best-loved BBC shows including Line Of Duty, Peaky Blinders and Call the Midwife ceased filming, while the broadcaster reduced the frequency of weekly EastEnders episodes. Instead telly addicts have got their fix from programmes that had been created before the deadly COVID-19 pandemic began, on iPlayer, ITV Hub and All4, or taken advantage of free 30-day trials of streaming services including Britbox, Amazon Prime and Netflix. Charlotte Moore, director of content at the Beeb, said: “We’ve been looking very carefully at how we can safely put some of our shows back into production, and I’m pleased to announce that we plan to begin filming again on both EastEnders and Top Gear by the end of next month. “The BBC’s coverage of VE Day and this week’s Hospital specials from the coronavirus front line are examples of how well we can rise to the creative and technical challenge.” It is not yet known when the other major soaps - Coronation Street, Emmerdale and Hollyoaks - will return to filming, but it is expected to be within weeks as opposed to months.
