Eoin Morgan has poured cold water on Alex Hales making an immediate return to international cricket after the coronavirus delay. And although opening bat Hales would be a contender on ability, Morgan is not satisfied enough time has passed for him to regain the trust he lost on the eve of last year’s tournament. That incident was the final straw for Morgan and the senior players who agreed with the management decision to axe Hales from the ultimately victorious squad. “What happened was considerably harmful to the environment, which led to the breakdown in trust between Alex and our players, so to say, how long that will take to regain, we don’t know. Certainly the door is still open for that trust to be built back up.” With The Hundred postponed, Morgan cannot fulfil his job as London Spirit skipper this year.
