Renault planning new electric SUV

The new EV is most likely to be an SUV that’s similar in size to the Renault Kadjar, but could feature a lower, sleeker roofline to make it look a bit more like a lifted estate. This bodystyle means there’s plenty of space inside, even with the battery pack in the floor, but it’s more aerodynamic - and therefore more efficient - than a larger, boxier SUV. Both these models should offer batteries that are big enough to give a maximum range of over 300 miles, while the platform has been designed to support front-wheel drive or four-wheeldrive. Laurens van der Acker, Groupe Renault’s head of design, told our sister site Auto Express that SUVs will still be popular for a few years yet, and that the Renault Megane hatchback could suffer as a result. I think we’re still in for SUVs for quite a while as they’ve become incredibly efficient and remain very attractive – and it’s the only proportion thatappeals globally.” “Inevitably, once we’re starting to add a range of EVs to our line-up, some of the other vehicles are going to have to go because we just can’t afford to develop all of this at the same time.
