Workers at the landmark have started preparations to re-open on June 25, after three months of shutdown, but the lifts will remain shut because of the risk of disease transmission, managers said. Turkish authorities have made face masks mandatory in the capital Ankara, as well as the cities of Istanbul and Bursa, following a surge in confirmed cases since the reopening of many businesses. Spanish prime minister Pedro Sanchez has announced the country will formally honour its 27,000 coronavirus victims on July 16 with a ceremony that will be attended by top EU and World Health Organisation figures.
