Roadmap for return of competitive British sport to be released

The document, which was put together by a working group chaired by Sally Munday, the UK Sport chief executive, is expected to advise on the minimum standards necessary before venues and clubs are reopened. Due to the close physical proximity involved in rugby, the Government would have to significantly relax the restrictions around social distancing for full-contact training to resume. If the return date goes past June 27 then it is increasingly likely that the league will schedule midweek matches in order to complete the nine remaining rounds and play-offs before the 2020-21 season commences on Sept 18. The Royal Yachting Association has indicated that single-handed Olympic sailors will be sailing recreationally from Wednesday – with safety cover from support staff on team boats but without coaches – but there cannot be any formal, world-class programme activity until the guidelines are published.
